Pleo lets you block card payments to certain merchants. This helps you control spending and prevent payments to vendors you don’t want to be charged by.
There are two ways to block card payments to merchants:
- Block by merchant category (self-serve) - set per user
- Block a specific merchant (via Support) - apply to the whole account
Block merchants by category
Merchant category blocks are set per user. This means the block only affects the selected person’s cards (physical card or virtual card).
- Go to People
- Select the relevant user
- Go to Cards
- Open Advanced card settings
- Find the relevant merchant category (for example Fuel stations, Grocery stores, Restaurants, Software)
- Turn the toggle off for the category you want to block
- Once done, payments to merchants in that category will be declined automatically Example: If you turn off Software, transactions to merchants such as Google, Microsoft, or Apple will be declined.
There are no in-app or email notifications when a transaction is declined due to a merchant category block.
Block a specific merchant
If you need to block one specific merchant (rather than a whole category), contact Support. Unlike category blocks, specific merchant blocks apply to the whole account.
What to send to Support
Contact support with the details needed to identify the merchant, for example:
- Merchant name
- Merchant website
- Receipts
- Previous transaction details
